AtmosClear is a carbon capture project at the Port of Greater Baton Rouge in Louisiana. The facility will convert renewable biomass—such as sugarcane bagasse and responsibly sourced forestry products—into renewable baseload power, while capturing 680,000 metric tons of biogenic CO2 annually. This captured carbon will be either permanently stored or repurposed for low-carbon applications, including renewable natural gas and synthetic fuels.
AtmosClear has signed a landmark 15-year agreement with Microsoft to deliver one of the largest permanent carbon dioxide removal (CDR) purchases ever announced. Under the contract, AtmosClear will provide Microsoft with 6.76 million metric tons of durable carbon removal using Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage (BECCS) technology. The long-term offtake agreement supports Microsoft’s goal to become carbon negative by 2030 and reflects growing demand for high-integrity, verifiable CDR solutions.
